Rebekah Sikyta writes stories exploring God’s love in realms both real and fantastical.

She discovered her love of writing in third grade, when she composed a short story exploring the adventures of the class hamster after he escaped from his cage (in case you’re wondering, he went to Build-A-Bear). She continued to enjoy writing even as creative projects morphed into research papers, one of which led a university professor to suggest she change her major to English. One semester away from graduating, however, Rebekah stuck with her more “practical” pursuit of a B.B.A. in Management. But the need to write never went away, and a few years out of college she decided to learn the craft in hopes of one day publishing a novel.

This dream led her to the 2019 Northwestern Christian Writer’s Conference, where she won the Bethany House Aspiring Author Award for a flash fiction piece entitled “Shared Burdens.” Later that year she set to work writing her first novel. As eye-opening and educational as that experience was, she eventually discovered it was not the right story for her to tell. Thankfully, that one idea was not the end, and in November 2023 she shelved that project in favor of a superhero story that simply would not leave her alone. That story became What Makes a Villain.

When not writing, Rebekah can be found working at her local library, gushing over every cute new tomato in her vegetable garden, or tackling whatever crafty project currently strikes her fancy.
